Welcome to Worship at First Call

Our worship services are central to who we are as followers of Jesus Christ. All who feel drawn to share in the sacrament of Holy Communion are invited and encouraged to do so. In joining us, it is our hope that you will come to know the real presence of our Lord. Holy Communion is celebrated at each worship service.

First Lutheran Church honors the centuries-old traditions of Christian liturgical worship, as well as more modern forms of worship. The 8:15 a.m. chapel service is a more informal, spoken Communion setting, while the 10:30 a.m. worship hour usually follows a setting from Evangelical Lutheran Worship. The 10:30 a.m. worship features the adult vocal choir and bell choir.

During the summer months, a more casual, contemporary liturgy is often used, such as Marty Haugen’s “Now the Feast and Celebration.” Worshipers can enjoy a Jazz Service at the 10:30 a.m. service every on the last Sunday of the month. This popular service features jazz musicians—instrumentalists and vocalists—from the congregation and the community, as well as First’s own Blue Notes singers.

Opportunities for Learning

At First Lutheran, you’re never too young, or too old, to learn. Sunday classes are provided for all ages, from preschool through adult years at 9 a.m., September through May.

For our littlest guests and members (four and under) we offer a staffed nursery with toys and games, beginning at 8 a.m. They are certainly welcome in worship, but if they are more comfortable in the nursery, they will be in good hands.

For our older kids, we offer Children’s Church during the 10:30 a.m. service in the chapel on every Sunday except the last of each month, when they join their families in the sanctuary for the Jazz service. Children’s Church is currently staffed by volunteers who lead the children through a lesson mirroring the content of the liturgy for the day. They also enjoy fun songs about faith led by our volunteers.

Adults meet between Sunday worship services at 9 a.m. for a study based on the lectionary readings for that day.  There is also a mid-week book study for adults that meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Special learning opportunities for children and adults occur during the year and our highlighted on our Calendar and in First News on our home page.

Confirmation/First Communion Instruction

A two-year program of Confirmation instruction is offered to youth who are junior highschool age. For elementary school children, a three-session introduction is provided to prepare them to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Parents are consulted as to when it is appropriate for their child to receive their First Communion.
