First members and friends donated shoes by the bucketfuls! After the final weekend of the shoe collection, the total donated tally exceeded 450 pairs of shoes for children, women, and men.

The First Lutheran Church shoe drive, which was part of our Sunday School's celebration of Epiphany, was conducted in step with Elite Feet, a Hawthorne Plaza running shoe store that's been conducting its own shoe drive for 15 years. Last year, Elite Feet collected and donated 13,000 pairs of shoes to Missouri and Kansas charities-several loads went to victims of the Joplin tornado. Most of the shoes end up on the feet of local people who find themselves homeless or on the verge of homelessness, which includes an increasing number of families with children.

A huge thank you on behalf of all the individuals whose feet will ultimately be protected from cold, damp winters or hot, dry summer pavement because of your contribution to this very successful effort.
