Fifth Sunday after Epiphany


When you first ask people what there is that’s interesting to see in Hutchinson, Kansas, where my last church was, the first thing they usually mention is the salt museum. Now that phrase makes people laugh, because a salt museum sounds really boring. It conjures images of walking past displays of various types of salt. But that’s not exactly what the salt museum is. It’s part of a still-active salt mine given over to an opportunity to take an elevator 700 feet down into the earth to be surrounded by walls composed of salt. And, to see the many artifacts which are stored in the mine, due to the fact that it creates the perfect atmosphere for preservation of almost anything, including Superman’s original outfit.
