Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

 

The Pharisees and the Sadducees are often mentioned in the same breath in scripture. But as we see in today’s rather strange little gospel, the Pharisees and the Sadducees, while they were both opposed to Jesus, they were also opposed to each other in many significant ways. One way that they differed is that the Pharisees did believe in a resurrection from the dead, while the Sadducees did not—which is why they were “sad, you see.” That’s gold right there—gold!
