Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Heilsgeschichte. I don’t have a very good German accent. But that German word points us to something that’s very important in theology, especially modern theology. It’s a word that means salvation history. Salvation history becomes a part of the form of how we pray here in church. In our prayers, first we name God, and then we recite a piece of salvation history. And then we ask God for something, and then we close in the name of Jesus: “Heavenly Father, you once freed your children from bondage. So free us from all that would hold us back from serving you. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.” [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
