Reconciling in Christ Sunday
January 27, 2019

Second Sunday after Epiphany

When I was young and heard that Jesus had been a carpenter, that made me very happy because my Uncle Steve had also been a carpenter as long as it wasn’t deer season; he was a full-time hunter. And Steve also had long hair like many of the pictures I saw of Jesus. So when I would see Steve putting the hammer through the loop in his tool belt and situating his tape measure in his pocket, and dusting yesterday’s dirt from his well-worn coat and heading out for another day’s work, I would feel that maybe Jesus was sort of like us. He worked a job like we did. Maybe his mornings and his afternoons were sort of like the ones we lived. Maybe his joys and sorrows were understandable, even for people like us. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
