Second Sunday of Advent

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness proclaiming “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Sometimes people ask why in the Lutheran church we would have readings to do with this John, who obviously belongs to another denomination. Where’s John the Lutheran that we might hear from him by God? Sometimes the prophet’s name will be even written John the Baptizer rather than the Baptist so as to avoid confusion between him and that modern Christian denomination. Baptists call themselves so because their theological heritage is to insist upon adult baptism rather than infant. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
