Reformation Sunday

Why does it matter? Why do we have this day on the calendar every year the Sunday before All Saints? Why do we commemorate again the day that a German monk nailed some of his thoughts to the door of a church? Why does it matter that the name of our church still bears his name though the term “Lutheran” was initially an insult, because heretics are always named after their leader. What does it mean to be Lutheran in Kansas City in 2019? All good questions, which we will ponder together this morning as we commemorate and as we celebrate this Reformation Sunday.
