Reconciling in Christ Sunday


In today’s gospel, Jesus has returned home, which, as we all know, can be an event which is fraught both with joy and great anxiety. At certain times of life, returning to the place of your birth is like looking into a crystal ball, seeing your own past, measuring the distance between the person you used to be and the person you are now. Though we cannot know Jesus’ inner thoughts, he is at the intersection of builder’s son and prophet, and the people are watching and they are listening.
