Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

 

The parable of the persistent widow—today’s parable is often labeled that in the headings of bibles. And yet, this widow is at the center of the story, but the story is less about her persistence and more about the grace, and the goodness, and the character of God. Jesus is making an argument from reasonableness as he does elsewhere when talking about prayer to his disciples. He says elsewhere in the gospels, Which of you, if your son asked for a loaf of bread, would give him a serpent instead? The answer is no one.  [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
