Holy Trinity Sunday


I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. And as Jesus says these words in today’s gospel, he paints a picture of the church that is very different than many carry with them. Many think of the Christian church as a museum or petrified, irrelevant, or antiquated ideas. Many think of the church as a place that squelches free thinking, or creativity, or individuality; that it’s a place that purports to have God locked down inside its doctrine. But to think this way on the church denies the reality of the Spirit and the work of the Spirit, which Jesus describes in today’s gospel. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
