Fourth Sunday of Easter

We normally only hear the word testify in a couple of different contexts. In court, we may be called upon to testify to what we know about the truth. And in the church, it’s the same thing. We testify to our faith when we say the words of the ancient creed and when we receive Holy Communion, because in the act of receiving it we are testifying that we believe what Jesus says about it. When Jesus is confronted in today’s gospel by those who want to be told plainly whether or not he is the messiah, he says that his works testify to him: his works of healing, and feeding, and casting out demons, and offering forgiveness of sin. “Look to these things,” Jesus says, “if you want to know who I am.” [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
