Fourth Sunday in Lent

The gospel for today is one of black and white differences, of stark contrast. And we can think of these contrasts as the difference between home and the far country. I remember flying out of Jackson, Mississippi, and watching the pine forest dwindle away, excited to visit what would be my first place of ministry. We landed in Amarillo, Texas. We visited their zoo, which contained only steer, squirrels, deer, and armadillos. It struck me that it seemed like they had simply erected a fence to contain the animals that were already standing there and put up a sign. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
