Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

 

As I may have mentioned once or twice before, I’m not from here. I’m from the Mississippi Delta. If you don’t know what a delta is, it’s a geographical formation which occurs where a river meets an ocean and there’s a buildup of sediment, good food, good music, and a predilection towards not taking things too seriously. In Mississippi there are 2,132 Southern Baptist Churches and 11 Evangelical Lutheran Churches. My family went to none of them. It goes without saying that my understanding of the church at the time was formed mainly by fundamentalism.
