Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

Today’s gospel is situated in a series of stories that are meant to show us exactly who this Jesus is. He has shown himself to be able to cast out demons. He has shown himself to have control over the wind and the waves and the stilling of the storm. And today Jesus shows us that he has not only the authority to bring wholeness and wellbeing, but has the compassion to do so as well. Though Jesus has come into the world with the biggest of fish to fry, he is not disconnected from the everyday troubles, the everyday hurts, of the people he has come to save. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
