Second Sunday of Lent

Our instinct in today’s gospel as we hear it is to empathize with Peter because what he has to say seems quite natural. Jesus has started saying where his path is leading, the path which he has been traveling at least since the temptation in the wilderness for he has chosen the way of self-giving and sacrifice. There, too, it was Satan, who urged Jesus to think about himself more than the broken world. And now here, only two chapters before Jesus’ triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, it’s Peter who is tempting Jesus away from the road to the cross. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
