Fifth Sunday after Pentecost


There are two problems in today’s gospel. The first one is the most obvious. There is a storm that is threatening the disciples as they go on their way. We can relate. This past Tuesday Autumn and I were coming out of a store on an errand when all of a sudden those heavy clouds popped up and the rains came and the storm actually knocked out the telephones and the organ here at the church. But thankfully, all is restored. We are better informed and prepared for the coming of storms than were the contemporaries of Jesus who, not understanding the origins of the weather, must have, like Job’s friends, attributed the lightning and thunder to the anger of God.
