Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost


Martin Luther so detested the book of James where our second lesson is taken from that he wavered on whether or not to include it in his German translation of the Bible. In the book of James, together with the book of Revelation, it is hard to find Christ, he wrote. And yet he did include it and thereby continued the very good tradition within the Christian tradition of allowing for opposing viewpoints so that one can find a balance. It was that same inclination within the fathers of the earliest church that led them to order the New Testament in the way that it is ordered.
