Eighth Sunday after Pentecost


For the last few weeks, our readings have focused on the power and the majesty and the authority of Christ. He has stilled storms and he has healed the sick. Last week we heard of how he had sent out his disciples two by two with no resources and they were given the power to cast out demons. Immediately following the report of the power which the disciples are demonstrating, we have today’s reading. It’s news of the disciples’ ministry which has reached the ears of Herod. And he’s afraid because he thinks that in this new ministry is a sign that John the Baptist, whom he had killed, has returned. [To hear the entire sermon, click on the arrow above.]
