Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

 

Zoe and Sean’s elementary school had their “Donuts with Dad” event this past week, which is an opportunity that we fathers get each year to cause a traffic jam at 8 in the morning and then to stand in line for half an hour for one free donut, trying to hear the sound of our children complaining over the sound of a hundred other children complaining. And at such events, I am always amazed at the great diversity of parents; yes, even in Johnson County. Some men are dressed in suits and ties and some in jeans and T-shirts. Some look happy to be there; some look eager to get to work.
