Love one another. Jesus’ admonition is not just in practice inside First Lutheran Church. It’s a way of life that First’s Social Ministry Committee takes to the streets, often literally. Social Ministry defines a need and the congregation responds with an outpouring of donated items and hands-on participation. Here at a glance are some of the activities that are evidence of what it means to love thy neighbor.
Coffee and sugar along with socks bottled water and candy bars were gathered and delivered to Children’s Memorial Lutheran Church to serve to individuals who sought shelter from brutal winter cold at the church.
30 Valentines were made by First’s Sunday School youth and were delivered to KUMC Pediatric Oncology for distribution to patients.
Over $500.00 was raised from Corn Bag collections to benefit Crop Resource Bank.
Dinner was prepared and served to students and LCM board members at Westwood House-Lutheran Campus Ministry in Lawrence.
First Sunday School youth packed 110 lunches for delivery to MLM.
43 teacher appreciation gift bags were prepared and distributed to FLEEC, CS1, and Hale Cook Elementary Schools.
A large container of school supplies and a check for $190.00 was delivered to MLM for students in need.

Welcome Back gift bags were prepared and distributed to FLEEC and CS1 teachers.
“Bottoms Up” Diaper Drive will benefit the little ones at SafeHome.

Christmas Store In-gathering of Gifts for the MLM Christmas Store will be November 13 through 27 at First. Especially needed this year: Women’s and teens’ gifts, clothing for infants, household items, king- or queen-sized blankets.
S.U.B.s for Santa is back for 2016 collecting socks, underwear, belts, and shoelaces for Santa America’s S.U.B.s Program. All sizes—for kids and adults—are needed. Collection continues through December 25. Items collected benefit local residents.
